About / Overview

Dr. Alpers completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia as well as the Université Jean-Moulin in Lyon, France. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology, minor in Chemistry, and a Bachelor's of Art in French. He then attended medical school at the University of Missouri-Columbia, graduating with his MD in 2004; during this time, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force.

He completed his intern year in Internal Medicine followed by residency in Neurology at Wilford Hall Medical Center/Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas and served as Chief Resident of Neurology during his final year of residency. His training culminated in a fellowship in Neuromuscular Medicine at Duke University.

After completion of training, Dr. Alpers served as the Chief of Neurophysiology at Wright-Patterson Medical Center/Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. As a Neurologist and a Major in the United States Air Force, he held teaching positions at both Wright State School of Medicine and the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS).

Dr. Alpers is board-certified in Neurology, Neuromuscular Medicine, and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He is the director of the only certified electrodiagnostic laboratory in the region. Though his interest extends to all aspects of neuromuscular medicine, he has specific interest in disorders of the neuromuscular junction such as myasthenia gravis as well as performance of advanced techniques in diagnosis of peripheral nervous system disorders including single-fiber EMG and peripheral nerve ultrasonography.
