About / Overview

Dr. John Heise grew up in Florida and comes to Children’s from Kingsport, Tennessee where he was in private practice with the Holston Medical Group. During his time in Kingsport, he also served as Medical Director and Forensic Examiner for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Sullivan County, and Medical Director of Comprehensive Community Services.

Dr. Heise attended the University of Miami School of Medicine in Florida and went on to pediatric internship and residency at the Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His Adolescent Medicine Fellowship followed at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati.

With research experience in vaccines, ADHD, autism, sexuality and sports medicine, Dr. Heise has special interests that include all of the above areas, as well as eating disorders, acne care, and contraception.  Dr. Heise’s affinity for adolescent medicine comes from a desire to help teens and families through the challenging and rapidly changing time of adolescence.

Dr. Heise is married to an education administrator and they are the parents of twin teenage boys. Beyond work, Dr. Heise enjoys water sports, travel, concerts and theatre. On Saturdays in the fall you will find Dr. Heise at various football games around the SEC.
