About / Overview
Dr. Michael Gallagher was born in LaGrange, Illinois. He attended high school at Radnor Senior High School in Pennsylvania, graduating in 1979. His undergraduate studies were performed at the University of South Carolina, where he graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in 1983 with Magna Cum Laude honors. He was accepted to Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia from which he graduated in 1987, again with Magna Cum Laude honors. His residency training was performed at Emory University in Atlanta, where he completed his internship in 1988 and his formal Neurosurgical residency training in 1994. During his residency he performed a 6 month research fellowship concentrating on biomechanics of the spine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He further supplemented his residency training with an additional spinal surgery fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1995. He has conducted significant research with numerous publications regarding disorders of the brain and spine.
Dr. Gallagher arrived in Chattanooga in 1995 and has been employed with Chattanooga Neurosurgery & Spine (now UT Erlanger Neurosurgery) since that time. He holds a teaching appointment with the UTC Department of Surgery.
