Erlanger’s academic urologists have earned national recognition in the treatment of urologic cancers, such as kidney, bladder and prostate. We provide the most advanced therapies available including open and laparoscopic surgery, as well as miminally invasive, robot-assisted surgery. Our Urologic Oncology teams work in close coordination as needed with other cancer treatment modalities such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and combination therapies.
Our innovative surgical approaches for urologic cancers include:
- High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) - only available in Tennessee at Erlanger Baroness Hospital - is a high-performance imaging treatment that precisely targets prostate cancer cells, without damaging healthy surrounding tissue.
- Robot-Assisted Surgery includes our kidney-sparing cancer surgery which preserves the kidney while removing the tumor mass.
- Cryoablation Surgery uses small ice crystals to destroy the kidney or prostate cancer cells with minimal pain and a quick recovery.
- Laparoscopic Surgery is a minimally invasive alternative to open surgery that allows for decreased pain and faster recovery times.
