Erlanger Cardiology includes highly skilled interventional cardiologists who diagnose, evaluate and treat a variety of heart conditions using non-surgical, catheter-based procedures. In these procedures, the catheter is guided through a blood vessel in the patient’s groin, arm or peripheral artery, using X-ray imaging to navigate the route into the heart.
A Designated Heart Attack (STEMI) Center
Erlanger is a designated center for immediate percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for heart attack patients. As such, we are committed to providing coordinated care and meeting national standards for immediate and coordinated heart attack care by focusing on:
- Expertise, facilities and equipment to perform non-surgical, heart-attack interventions (PCI)
- 24/7 PCI readiness
- Coordination with emergency services and transferring facilities to ensure fast treatment of heart attack
- Multidisciplinary team approach
- Continuous quality improvement based on national data
Advanced Interventions for Complex Heart Disease
Many patients with complex coronary artery disease are ineligible for surgical treatment due to their health or other risk factors (age, diabetes, etc.). Our Heart and Lung Institute offers new minimally invasive coronary and cardiac support interventions that can provide high-risk patients with safe and effective treatment alternatives.
- High-Risk and Cardiogenic Shock Program – Cardiogenic shock can occur after the heart muscle is damaged by a heart attack, leaving it unable to pump enough blood to the body. This program uses recent advances in mechanical circulatory support and lesion preparation to help restore blood flow to the body and prevent organ damage.
- Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO)/Hybrid Revascularization – This program combines the latest interventional and surgical innovations to achieve full revascularization (restored blood flow) for patients with complete blockages of the coronary arteries.
- Peripheral Intervention/Limb Salvage – We offer a full spectrum of minimally invasive procedures for treating complex peripheral vascular disease and restoring circulation to lower extremities for the high-risk surgical patient.
